DHSB Half Term Photography
Fotonow host Devonport High School for Boys Activity Day

We recently welcomed 8 young people from Devonport High School for Boys’ half-term activity programme to Fotonow, to take part in a one-day photography masterclass!
Led by Jess from the Fotonow team and supported by volunteer Milly, the boys learned the basics of how to use a digital SLR camera, along with some key composition techniques. The group then headed out on a photo walk around Royal William Yard, where they worked both independently and collaboratively to create photographs inspired by the area.
Using our ‘mini-people’ figurines as subjects, the boys explored creative ways to look at the environment from different perspectives. After a quick lunch break, the group returned to edit their images in our iMac suite, printed their favourite photographs from the day to take home, and finished up with a photo-collage activity.
We want to say a big thank you to the group – their enthusiasm made it such a fun session! Given that many of the boys had never used a digital SLR camera before, it was brilliant to see their confidence grow with the kit throughout the session. Thanks also to their teacher Mr Campbell, and to our volunteer Milly for her support!
